With a moving box in his hands, Chief Inspector Hamza Kulina drives to the basement of the police headquarters and enters his new workplace: the ‘Cold Case Department’. Maryam Azadi, head and sole employee of the department, is friendly but also a little distant: she does not expect her new colleague to last very long in the cold case department.

And no sooner have the two exchanged a few words than they are called to their first case: human remains of an old man's daughter have been discovered during the clearance of his flat. Maryam Azadi and Hamza Kulina quickly realise that the murder took place several years ago – and that the perpetrator's modus operandi is reminiscent of other unsolved murder cases.

The clues lead them to a notorious serial killer who seems to have led an almost perfect double life. But when the media learns of the discovery of the body parts and jeopardises the investigation with their reporting, the two are under pressure to identify the victims as quickly as possible. A race against time and a journey into Frankfurt's past begins. Maryam and Hamza have three days to work through criminal files dating back to the 1970s and finally give grieving relatives some certainty.

As they continue their investigation, the two come across another victim who, at first glance, does not fit the serial killer's pattern, but who could give the case a new and gruesome twist.
